The events of AvX have led to this instance, where Steve Rogers decided to have the Avengers work on an Uncanny angle, in an effort to do more for mutantkind, by first recruiting Havok, aka Alex Summers, brother of the power-maddened Cyclops, into their ranks, because neither Storm nor Beast wouldn't seem uncanny enough for the job. Wolverine was mentioned during their discourse, and already being an Avenger himself, would have saved Havok the burden of joining the Avengers and being the new face of mutantkind, had it not been for his checkered past and questionable obligations (X-force, ahem), the same reasons Wolverine would be the last person anyone expects to establish a school for young mutants.
Cyclops' murder of Professor Xavier apparently struck a blow on the mutants, with Hugh Jackman, I mean, Wolverine giving an oddly moving eulogy in honour of the once most powerful telepath. Odd, coming from a mutant who doesn't shy away from getting his hands dirty and still holds true to Xavier's lofty ideals of peace between humans and mutants, still wanting to believe he's more human (or mutant) than his aggressive exterior would suggest. Is it hypocrisy, to contradict the animal within him for so long? Perhaps. Or maybe he simply admires idealist such as Xavier a little too much.
It's been, what, years, since the House of M incident, the conclusion of which saw the Scarlet Witch wiping almost all of mutantkind out of existence, and still people pick on her about it, which is something I never could wrap my head around. No one was actually killed, so why still make such a fuss about it?

I can also never quite understand the 'either with us or against us' mentality most people exhibit; then again, I'm not most people. Cyclops did the most damage, in terms of body count, than the Scarlet Witch's culling of mutant powers worldwide, during which no life was taken. With vengeance upon the human race playing a factor in it, was it worth cracking the number of eggs it took Cyclops to preserve evolutionary progress? It all boils down to a matter of perspective, including the fact that Wanda's indifference toward her pushing all mutantkind to the brink of extinction was probably not the worst thing that could happen.
