I'm not sure what possessed me to stumble across this; mayhap I missed reading up on the Thunderbolts for what the group once was: a group of villains working together to draw the world into a false sense of security by assuming the guise of do-gooders. From the cover on the left, you can see how far removed the next Thunderbolts team is going to be from the original.
In Marvel's relaunching of existing titles and launching of new ones, an event branded Marvel NOW! (Marvel's New 52, one way of looking at it, except I'm not certain how many titles will be involved in the relaunching and launching event), the new Thunderbolts is headed by the Red Hulk, aka General Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross (Coincidence?), and is basically a team of antiheroes, mercenaries who do what they do best and who believe that what they do is right, and all of them are apparently dressed for the occasion. Deadpool's in it too, unsuprisingly enough, considering Daniel Way's involvement in it.
It also somewhat shares a resemblance to X-men's own mercenary group, the Uncanny X-force, except that unlike X-force, a group of mutants who do what they do best for the welfare of mutantkind with the least possible amount of noise (sometimes), the Thunderbolts will be carrying out their judgement upon ne'er-do-wells as loud as they can, and considering the cast of characters shown here, it's not going to be too much of a hassle. One other commonality shared with X-force I can think of now is that both teams seem to have a one-scantily-clad-female-antihero requirement; Elektra in the Thunderbolts' case, and Psylocke in the X-force's.
Let's hope Way knows what he's doing and that he's not writing on Deadpool alone.
